As The Babymoon Photographer, I travel a lot. Each location inspires me to share something new with my mama tribe. A sense of place is something I always try to convey in a photo. It adds a greater depth of meaning – especially in capturing milestone moments like entering motherhood.
A few weeks ago, I traveled to Seattle with some fellow lifestyle photographers. Our goal was to shoot hidden gems in each session – the majestic mountains, shimmering waters, emerald green forests. It was my first time to the city. Can I just say I was blown away?
Not only was nature bursting with color, but we found so much diversity within one hour of downtown Seattle. In one day, we shot lakes and waterfalls in the morning, then had time for lunch and relaxation before heading to the beach for sunset.
Just as important was capturing diversity with our models. Pregnancy and motherhood joins us all. It is a journey that crosses ages, nationalities and borders.
I have to gush about shooting Mt. Ranier in the background. My driver and I had never been there. We were winding our way along backroads and then all of a sudden – BOOM! It appeared out of nowhere – towering over the rest of the landscape. Just breathtaking.
Another location I fell in love with was the romantic lavender fields on Vashon Island - a quick ferry ride from Seattle. They only bloom in the summer and, boy, do they make a poetic backdrop for a babymoon shoot. Not to mention the heavenly smell!
If you want to explore some beautiful destinations for your babymoon shoot – or share your suggestions – we’d love to hear from you.
